Green Tea and Red Bean

03 December 2008

There are weddings and then there are WEDDINGS. All I can say is that there were plenty of exquisite details from Emily and Danny's wedding that I could hardly condense the images to one inspiration board - so I made THREE mini ones! Enjoy the images and the story behind the wedding.

When I first met with the clients, Emily and Danny, during the initial consultation and to months that followed, they continued to repeat through conversation how important that their wedding was fun, interesting, and elegant without being overly fussy. They wanted a not too typical wedding with a streamlined design featuring a modern Asian Zen garden feel, that was still warm and inviting.

Of course after many hours of deliberation, Emily and Danny choose colors like dark espresso, zen black, green tea, Kelly green, blossom white, and a hint of red bean. In terms of the flowers, it had to have a Zen inspired elegance - "Asian but not too Asian". Simple but whimsical though never cute. For the aisle, I created these "hand bag" style chair decorations that hung from hooks. Using green horsetail, we created the "bag" and then filled them with Mop Head hydrangea and white Dendrobium orchids.

The highlight of the reception had to be the place card table. For the table, I created a large tray. This dark wooden tray was filled with Danny's favorite element - Taiwanese Mung beans. Square place cards attached to bamboo skewers were lined like little soldiers in perfect rows and staked into a bed of beans. The cards as well as all the printed invitations, menus, and programs embodied the couple's signature floral graphic motif which was created by Peculiar Pair Press. All this was nurtured under the care and dedication of the talented planner - the fabulous Jubilee Lau of Jubilee Lau Events. Mr. Tony White of the Ritz Carlton oversaw the mini details including a dessert buffet that was truly momentous. All the mini pastries and desserts were inspired by the bride and groom who have quite the sweet tooth - each mini dessert incorporated Asian inspired flavors and ingredients.

Of course, a wedding doesn't come to life without images which the talented Lisa Leigh captured. Aren't the images so inspiring?

Congratulations to a wedding that truly had many lovely elements that inspired.
